How to Prepare for Your Contact Lens Exam
To make your contact lens exam as smooth as possible, here’s what to bring:
- Your Alberta personal health care card
- Your current glasses and sunglasses
- If you already wear contact lenses, please wear them to your appointment
- A list of any medications you’re currently taking
- Insurance information, if applicable
The Importance of a Contact Lens Exam and Fitting
A proper contact lens fitting is about more than comfort—it protects your eyes and your vision. Poorly fitted lenses can cause irritation, blurred vision, and in some cases, more serious eye issues.
During your fitting, our optometrists take precise measurements of your eye shape, assess tear quality, and discuss your vision needs and lifestyle. You’ll receive a trial pair of lenses to test comfort and clarity in your day-to-day routine.
An assistant will teach you how to safely insert, remove, and care for your lenses, and a follow-up visit about a week later helps ensure your lenses fit perfectly. Once both you and your doctor are satisfied, your lenses can be approved for ordering.
