How Often Should You Have an Eye Exam?

Routine eye exams help safeguard your vision, even if you feel your eyes are healthy. Many eye conditions develop silently, showing no symptoms until they’ve progressed.

We follow the Canadian Association of Optometrists’ guidelines for adult eye exams:

  • Ages 20–39: Every 2–3 years
  • Ages 40–64: Every 2 years
  • Ages 65+: Annually
  • Contact lens wearers: Annually

If you have preexisting conditions or are at higher risk, we will recommend a customized exam schedule tailored to your needs.

It’s an all-encompassing experience when you visit us for your eye exam.

You can expect:

  • A warm welcome: Check in at our cozy reception area and enjoy a drink from our Complimentary Beverage Station while you wait.
  • Pretesting: Begin with preliminary assessments in our pretesting area.
  • A comprehensive exam: In the exam room, your optometrist will review your medical history, address any concerns, and use our technology to assess your vision and overall eye health.

During your comprehensive eye exam, we will:

  • Identify the causes of any vision problems.
  • Detect early signs of eye diseases that could affect your sight or health.
  • Diagnose symptoms linked to other health conditions.
  • Provide precise prescriptions for glasses or contact lenses.

We take the time to explain your results clearly so you leave feeling informed and confident about your eye health. Afterward, visit our eyewear gallery to explore our selection of stylish frames and sunglasses.

Supporting Your Eyes with Proper Nutrition

At Prairie Vision, we understand that maintaining long-term eye health goes beyond regular exams. Proper nutrition plays an important role in supporting retinal health, slowing the progression of certain eye conditions, and complementing the care we provide in our clinic.

We recommend evidence-based supplements to help meet your nutritional needs, including PRN Omega-3 vitamins, PreserVision, and Macula 2 Essentials. These supplements provide key nutrients that support healthy eyes and overall wellness, helping you protect your vision for years to come.
